A man's body has been found in Carrickmacross in Co Monaghan.

Gardaí say the the discovery was made "in unexplained circumstances" on land surrounding a hotel on the Kingscourt Road at Lossets.

The body was found at around 8am on Tuesday following a call from a member of the public.

The M Hotel is currently being used to house asylum seekers.

The scene has been preserved and a technical exam will be carried out by the Garda Technical Bureau.

The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

Gardaí have said the results of a post-mortem will determine the course of the investigation.
