A man and woman are being treated in hospital following a serious house fire in Newbridge in Co. Kildare.

The blaze broke out at the house in Liffey View at around 10pm last night.

The man who is in his late 60s was severely injured. While the woman, who is in her 50s, also sustained injuries.

The husband and wife are being treated at St. James Hospital in Dublin.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the blaze and Gardaí are carrying out door-to-door inquiries.
