A man who slashed the face of his his ex-girlfriend with a knife before putting her head under hot running water has had his sentence doubled.

Ashik Sabeer Imamboccus of Belvedere Place in Dublin was originally jailed for four and a half years for the attack which took place at Parnell Street in Dublin 3 years ago.

During Garda questioning Imamboccus admitted he attacked his ex-girlfriend because he was angry and seeking revenge. The 29-year-old believed she had an affair with his cousin.

Gruesome details of the frenzied attack were heard during his sentence hearing at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in May of 2011. The court heard how just a year beforehand, he had slashed her face with a knife before putting her head under hot running water.

He also tore the skin from her eyelid and tried to cut a tattoo of his name off her hip. The court was also told how he threatened to give her AIDS before writing the word with her blood on a wardrobe door.

At the time he was sentenced to four and a half years behind bars but an appeal was brought on the basis of undue leniency.

And today the 3 judges of the appeals court extended that sentence to 12 years with the final 3 suspended.
