A man who raped and sexually assaulted his daughter after tricking and blackmailing her when she was 18 has been jailed for seventeen years.
David Masterson, originally from Tallaght in west Dublin, can be named today because his daughter, Charlene, waived her right to anonymity.
Charlene Masterson was just 18-years-old when her father tricked her into performing a sex act on him.
He insisted she wear a blindfold and headphones with the music turned fully up.
He blackmailed her by pretending to be someone else, who was threatening to send details of online chats she was having with boys to her father’s workplace.
When she went to her father for help, he told her to do whatever the person wanted.
She only realised it was him years later when she found a secret video recording.
The psychological and sexual abuse continued for the next seven and a half years.
The court heard distressing details of the abuse she suffered; not only by him, but also other men.
Mr Justice Michael White said David Masterson’s offending involved a breach of trust, deception, control, physical violence and continuous acts of depravity.
Charlene, now 32, waived her right to anonymity so her father could be named, but also to show other survivors of abuse not to lose hope because they can live fulfilled lives and put their ordeals behind them, just like she has done.
