A 28-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the sectarian murder of Paul McCauley in Co Derry.
The 38-year-old died last June, nine years after he was beaten by a loyalist gang.
Matthew Gillen appeared at Derry Magistrates Court today charged with murdering father of one Paul McCauley.
He has also been charged with causing Grievous Bodily Harm and attempted Grievous Bodily Harm to two other men.
Detective Constable McLaughlin said said the police it to have been an unsanctioned UDA attack.
Gillen was remanded on a bail of stg£2,000, subject to a number of conditions.
These include that he is to reside at an address in the Abbeydale area of the city, and that he surrender his passport.
