Google has turned up quite a few gems since it first started mapping streets all over the world with its fleet of Street View cars. This 'murder,' captured on the streets of Edinburgh, might be a first though.
Dan Thompson, 56, a local garage owner, has apologised for faking a murder in front a Google Street View car. Thompson and a co-worker decided on the prank upon seeing the car passing nearby. For the photo he lay face-down on the ground, with the other man leaning over him with a pick axe handle.
The BBC reports that though the image was taken in August 2012, the first complaint to police did not arrive till a year later.
Thompson spoke to BBC Scotland about the prank:
"By complete fluke I saw the Google car coming along the road but it had to loop the block so I had one minute to rush back inside the garage and set up the murder scene.
"There are pictures of men on Google flashing their bums but we thought we would be more classy.
"We had forgotten about it when the police arrived a year later and we apologised for wasting police time. They found it funny."
