A man has been robbed and assaulted by a man armed with a hammer in Portrush.

The PSNI said a 23-year-old man was attacked as he got out of his car in the Mark Street area of the town at around 3am last night.

Police said he was “punched several times to the face” before the attacker “produced what is believed to be a hammer” and stole the man’s phone.

Meanwhile, two other people were still sitting in the car.

A second attacker approached and took the keys off one of them and both attackers proceeded to smash in the windows.

Anyone who was in the Mark Street area between 2:30am and 3am and may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact police.
