For most people, the joy of finding a tenner on the street would make their week. Imagine that being multiplied a few thousand times!
A Californian man had an incredible stroke of luck on Thursday when he found a package containing $125,000 in cash. Joe Cornell, 52, saw the package fall out of an armoured truck while he was working in the city of Fresno.
Cornell, who is participating in a drug-rehabilitation programme in a Salvation Army centre, was astounded at his discovery, but immediately decided to do the right thing.
Speaking to the Fresno Bee, he described the moment:
“I started crying and shaking. Everything was going through my mind - the good devil/bad devil thing. What to do? I have a grandbaby due any time, my fourth. I thought, ‘What would I want her to think of me?’ That made up my mind right there. I got on my radio and called my boss. ‘Hey, I found a bag of money.’
Brinks, the security firm who owns the truck, rewarded his honesty with $5,000 and an additional $5,000 donation to the Salvation Army.
