A man in his 40s who got into difficulty swimming in Dalkey this afternoon has been rescued by the Coast Guard.

The man, who was swimming at Dalkey Sound by Dillon’s Park in south Dublin, was attempting to swim out to Dalkey Island.

The man was rescued by the Coast Guard and transferred by ambulance to hospital suffering from mild hypothermia.

It is understood the man, who is expected to make a full recovery, had swam the crossing to the island before.
