A Dublin man has admitted to the manslaughter of journalist Eugene Moloney last year.
21-year-old Gary Burch of Kennington Close in Templogue has pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to unlawfully killing the 55-year-old at Camden Street on June 24th 2012.
Judge Mary-Ellen Ring has ordered a victim impact report to be prepared for the sentencing hearing in June.
The court heard in the interim, Burch - a trainee mechanic - will finish a FAS course.
He has no previous convictions.
'Internal bleeding in the brain'
Eugene Moloney was attacked walking to his home in Portobello after a Saturday night out with friends in Dublin city centre.
Last August, an inquest into his death heard he suffered internal bleeding in the brain.
He was pronounced dead at St. James's Hospital.
The 55-year-old had worked as a reporter for the Irish Independent before taking a redundancy package to travel in Europe and South-east Asia.
He returned to Ireland and worked for the Irish Daily Mail as a freelance writer in the months leading up to his death.
