A man has been jailed for 20 months for failing to stop after a fatal crash on the Naas Road after a night out in 2016.

Anthony Corcoran of Lyons Street, Newcastle, Co Dublin knocked Peter Maunde down as he tried to cross the busy carriageway.

The 39-year-old handed himself into gardaí the next day, but insisted he didn't realise he had hit a person on his way back to Cavan that night.

Judge Martin Nolan said the only explanation for not stopping is that he panicked and was conscious of the fact he’d been drinking.
