Gardaí have begun a murder inquiry after a man who was seriously assaulted in Tralee during the week has died from his injuries.

The incident happened on Wednesday night when gardaí were called to Killeen Woods in Tralee, Co Kerry and found a man - who was in his 20s - unconscious in the front garden.

He was rushed to Kerry General Hospital. Gardaí have confirmed he died last night.

Two men in their late 20 and early 30s were arrested near the scene.

Following a post mortem examination at Kerry General hospital today - Gardaí have now upgraded investigations into the attack - to a murder inquiry.

They're appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of the incident to come forward.
