Gardaí have begun door to door inquiries at a housing estate in the south inner city where a man was shot this morning.
It's believed he was targeted by a lone gunman as he walked along a cul-de-sac just after sunrise.
The victim was rushed to St. James's Hospital after being shot in the leg just after 5 o'clock this morning.
It happened at the Slieve Bloom Park estate in Drimnagh.
The area was sealed off and the road was closed to allow for a technical examination to take place.
The victim is expected to make a full recovery and Gardai are eager to take a statement from him as soon as he's well enough to give one.
It's understood he was shot by a lone gunman who left the scene on foot.
This is the second shooting to take place in the Drimnagh area in recent weeks.
Earlier this month, Christopher Zambra, a well-known gangland criminal, was shot dead outside his sister's house at a housing estate on nearby Cooley Rd.
Gardai are trying to establish a motive for this morning's shooting and are appealing for anyone with information to contact Crumlin Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
