A man in his 80s is in hospital with serious injuries following a crash between a car and a tractor in Cork last night. 

Gardaí said it happened at 8.05pm last night on the N71 at Durrus Cross in Gortnacloona near Bantry, Co Cork. 

The driver was taken to Cork University Hospital for serious injuries. No other serious injuries were reported. 

The N71 at Durrus Cross and the R591 approaching this junction remain closed for forensic investigation.  

Local diversions are in place. 

Gardaí in Cork are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. 

They are particularly interested in anyone with dash-cam footage who was in the area at the time.
