A six-year-old boy has died in hospital after being found with significant injuries on a roadside in Derry.
Police have named the boy as six-year-old Donnacadh Maguire.
He was found on a road in the Tyrconnell Street area of Derry city shortly before 10:30am this morning.
He was taken to hospital where he subsequently passed away.
A spokesperson for the PSNI confirmed officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.
A man has been arrested and is assisting police with their inquiries.
PSNI Inspector O’Brien said: “While it is possible that Donnacadh’s injuries were sustained as the result of a collision with a vehicle, we are working to establish exactly what happened and we are keen to speak to witnesses.”
“I would ask anyone who was on Tyrconnell Street this morning between 10am and 10.30am to please get in touch with officers in Strand Road or the Collision Investigation Unit.”
