A 31-year-old man has appeared in court charged in connection with the seizure of a handgun and ammunition in Dublin.

Richard O’Reilly of Windmill Road in Crumlin, Dublin 12, was arrested after a car he was travelling in was stopped on the Naas Road dual carriage on Saturday afternoon.

A Glock 26 handgun and 14 rounds of ammo were found during the subsequent search on Walkinstown Avenue.

Mr O’Reilly, who was arrested at the scene, appeared in court before Judge Michael Walsh charged with two firearms offences and possession of a stolen Volkswagen Golf.

Detective Garda Ian Pemberton said he made no reply when the charges were first put to him last night.

There was no application for bail and he was remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Thursday.

Another man arrested after a second car was stopped on the Long Mile Road has since been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
