A man in Cork was stabbed to death on Saturday morning, Gardaí have said.
They were called to Sea View Avenue in Carrigaline at around 3.30 in the morning where they attended to a 27-year-old man suffering from stab wounds.
Emergency services arrived but he died at the scene.
A second man in his 70s is recovering from stab wounds in Cork University Hospital.
A man in his 40s has been arrested.
Irish Independent journalist Ralph Reigel believes the two incidents are linked:
“The indications so far are that the man in custody is known to the deceased,” Mr Reigel told Newstalk.
“Now Gardaí for operational reasons are not saying much beyond that but it certainly appears that all the incidents occurred at this property.”
“It’s a very quiet and settled area where the incident took place,” local councillor Seamus McGrath described.
“And I know my thoughts and the thoughts of the community are with the family, victim… and, of course, the gentleman in hospital and we wish him a good recovery.”
