A man in his 70s has been arrested after Gardaí found a handgun and ammunition during searches in Dublin.

Gardaí attached to the Dublin Crime Response Team (DCRT) found the weapon and ammunition during searches in Saggart yesterday afternoon.

A man in his 70s was arrested at the scene.

He has since been released and a file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The gun will now undergo analysis at the Ballistics Section of the Garda Technical Bureau.

The Garda investigation is ongoing.
