A man has been taken to hospital after a shooting in Limerick city this evening.

Gardaí said they were called to Castle Street just before 7pm and found the man sitting in a car with a gunshot wound.

He was taken to University Hospital Limerick where his condition is described as stable.

The scene has been preserved for a forensic and technical examination.

No arrests have been made are gardaí are calling on anyone with information to contact them.

The investigation is continuing.
