A man is due in court charged in connection with an alleged arson attack on a former pub in Dublin.

The Shipwright pub and guest house in Ringsend was earmarked to house homeless families before the fire broke out in the early hours of the morning on December 31st.

In the days before the fire, rumours spread online that the building was to be used to house asylum seekers.

The Dublin Regional Homeless Executive (DRHE) later confirmed it was due to house 12 to 14 homeless families from February.

Six fire engines were involved in bringing the fire under control and nobody was injured.

In February, three people were arrested by Gardaí investigating the fire.

This morning, investigating Gardaí charged a man in his 40s.

He is due before the Criminal Courts of Justice (CCJ) this morning.

The Garda investigation is continuing.
