A man is due to appear in court in Westmeath this morning - charged in connection with a drugs and gun seizure.

Gardaí yesterday carried out a planned search of a house in Edgeworthstown, Co. Longford, at about 4 O'clock yesterday afternoon and found a 9 milimetre pistol and a small quantity of drugs - believed to be cocaine, cannabis and crystal meth.

A man (28) was arrested at the scene and held at Longford garda station.

He'll appear before Athlone District Court this morning.
