A man in his 50s has died in a crash in County Wicklow.

Gardaí said there were two cars and a van involved in the crash in the Main Street area of Rathdrum at around 1am last night.

The driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene. His remains have been removed to a mortuary in Loughlinstown.

Meanwhile, a woman in her 80s who was driving one of the cars, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The road was closed for a time while Gardaí carried out a forensic examination of the crash scene but it has since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them. They are particularly interested in talking to drivers who were in the area and may have dash-cam footage.
