A man (47) has been killed in a road crash in north Cork.

The man died after the car he was driving struck a tree and hit a ditch at Boolard, near Charleville, shortly before 10pm.

A passenger in the car was also injured in the collision, but his injuries are not life-threatening.

Gardaí in Charleville are appealing for witnesses.

The road has reopened this lunchtime.
