A man in his 50s has died after a crash in County Clare last night.

Gardaí said initial investigations indicate that the man’s car collided with a wall on the L3148 at Castlefergus in Quin at around 9:15pm last night.

The man was the only person in the car.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and was taken to University Hospital Limerick (UHL) for a post mortem examination.

The stretch of road remains closed this morning as Gardaí carry out a forensic examination.

The local coroner has been notified.

Gardaí are calling for witnesses to contact them.
