A man has died after a crash in Co Cork.

It happened at Mill Road in Fermoy at around 2.10pm on Wednesday afternoon.

The man, aged in his 70s, was the only person in the car when it collided with a pole.

He was pronounced dead at scene and his body has been taken to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital.

The road was closed to facilitate a Garda forensic examination, but has since re-opened.
