The Justice Minister and the Garda Commissioner are condemning the latest gangland style killing in Dublin.

A 27-year-old man who was known to Gardai was shot dead in Inchicore at around 10.30am this morning. He was shot at least once in the chest.

A car believed to have been used by the gunman was found on fire in the Rialto area shortly afterwards.

Alan Shatter says he hopes those responsible are quickly brought to justice:

The Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan says the investigation is at a very early stage and all necessary resources will be provided to assist the Gardai:

The scene has been sealed off and gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.

These locals told our reporter they are shocked: 

The dead man has a number of minor convictions. The man died at the scene. The location has been sealed off for a technical examination, while the services of the State Pathologist have also been requested.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Dry Canal Bed and Rialto Court between 10am and 11am this morning. They are also particularly anxious to speak to anyone who was on the Luas Tram at the time or who were in the vicinity of the Luas stops at Fatima or Suir Road or anyone with information to contact the incident room at Kilmainham 01-6669700, the Garda Confidential Line on 1-800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
