A man's been detained at Shannon airport, after allegedly trying to inspect a US millitary plane.
The man in his sixties was detained by airport police at around twenty past eight this morning before local gardai were contacted.
According to some reports, the man is alleged to be a veteran UN campaigner who said he was "intercepted by a member of the airport police as he attempted to board one of the planes at around 8.30am".
A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Last month, Foreign Affairs Minister, Seán Sherlock told the Dáil that Ireland had not not entered into a military alliance with the US - or with any other country or organisation.
He said: “Permitting the use of Shannon by the US does not challenge this position in any way and successive governments have considered that this is compatible with our policy of military neutrality.’’
