A man is in a critical condition after he was hit by a Luas tram in south Dublin.

Gardaí are investigating after the man, aged in his 60s, was struck by a Luas on the Ballyogan Road in Carrickmines.

It happened in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He was taken to St Vincent's University Hospital in a critical condition.

The Ballyogan Wood Luas stop is currently closed for technical examination.

While Luas says Green Line services are operating from Broombridge to The Gallops only.

There is no service between Brides Glen and The Gallops.

A replacement bus service is serving the affected stops.
