It's understood the male victim may have been the target of the attack.

He was brought to the Mater hospital where he remains in a serious condition while two women were taken to James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown and the third was brought to St James' Hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

It's understood another man was driving the car from which the gunman opened fire.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the attack to contact them.
