A 27-year-old Dublin man has been convicted of murdering a man who was shot 10 times in the passenger seat of a car.

Jonathan Douglas from O’Devany Gardens has been sentenced to life imprison for gunning down Aidan Byrne at Drumalee Avenue off the North Circular Road on February 20th 2010.

The jury heard Mr. Douglas was drinking in the pub on a Saturday evening when a man offered him money to carry out a hit.

He left half a drink behind to lie in wait for 31-year-old Aidan Byrne who was driven to Drumalee Avenue in a Toyota Corolla before 9pm that night.

He shot him 10 times before running from the scene to the house of his step-niece Stacey Douglas who lived nearby.

She told Gardaí Jonathan Douglas admitted the killing while at her house.

Her boyfriend Andrew Sheridan said Douglas also known as ‘Yuca’ showed him the gun before leaving.

Both Stacey and Andrew later retracted their statements claiming they were afraid and had told Gardaí what they wanted to hear.

On their second day of deliberations the jury convicted the 27-year-old of murder.

He has been sentenced to life in prison.
