A man is due in court in Liverpool today, charged in connection with an attack on an Irish man in the city at the weekend.

The 24-year-old is said to be in a critical condition with head injuries after the incident in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Two 19-year-old men were arrested for questioning yesterday, and police say one man has been charged.

The Liverpool Echo reports that Kyle Thompson of Cockerell Street in Kirkdale was remanded to appear in Liverpool Magistrates’ Court later today.

Merseyside Police have recovered CCTV footage of the incident and are appealing for witnesses.

They believe the man was assaulted following an altercation with two other men near the Walkabout bar and Level nightclub in the city.

Yesterday Detective Inspector Matthew Kerr told The Liverpool Echo that, “this was a nasty attack on a man who had been enjoying a night out. He sustained serious injuries as a result of the attack and is currently in a critical condition in hospital."
