A 34-year-old man has been charged in connection with the alleged abduction of a child and the theft of a car in Monaghan.

On Saturday evening an Opel Zaifira car was stolen from outside a business premises in Clones town.

A 10-year-old child girl in the vehicle at the time, but was found unharmed a short distance away.

Gardaí recovered the vehicle and arrested a man in connection with the incident in Cavan town.

The man appeared before a special sitting of Cavan District Court last night, and will be back in court this Friday.
