A man in Britain has woken up for the last 10 years believing it is the same day.

Referred to only as 'WO', this man (38) had a routine dental appointment for a root canal back in March 2005.

He was injected with the anaesthetic, and the procedure took just over an hour.

But afterwards, he was pale and faint and was taken by ambulance to hospital - where he stayed for three days.

But since then, he can only recall events of the last 90 minutes - then they are lost.

And he wakes up everyday thinking it is the day of the dental appointment.

Previously fit and healthy, he joined the army at age 17, is a Gulf War I veteran, and married his wife at age 22 - to whom he is still married.

Through prompting by his wife, he checks his computer each morning.

On this they have listed - and updated - key facts of his life he should be aware of.

The medical journal Neurocase says: "Some events that have occurred since the onset of his condition in March 2005 continue to elicit genuine surprise or astonishment each time he sees or hears about them, such as the marriage of some family friends or that a family pet has since passed away."

It says his case does "not fit within any existing neurological or psychiatric disorder or diagnostic category."

It concludes that this brand of amnesia "needs another diagnostic or classification category than any currently existing."
