A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fire at an apartment complex in Dublin. The blaze at Thornfield Square in Clondalkin broke out in the early hours of Tuesday July 9th last.

There were no serious injuries but a number of people were treated for smoke inhalation.

The man was arrested this morning. He is being held at Clondalkin Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

A woman went into labour during the evacuation at the 4-storey block. Children and residents were lowered from windows and balconies to escape the fire which broke out shortly after 5:30am.

10 units of the fire-brigade were dispatched to the scene where a number of residents were treated for smoke inhalation. One person was taken to hospital.
