Gardaí release man arrested over ‘Guy Fawkes’ armed robbery

A man arrested as part of a garda investigation into an armed robbery in County Clare has been released without charge.

The man was originally picked up by gardaí earlier on today.

A file is now being prepared for the DPP in relation to the matter.

It comes after a man wearing a Guy Fawkes-type mask entered a shop on the Kilrush road in Ennis at around 4pm last Wednesday 18th October.

Brandishing what appeared to be a firearm; he threatened staff and fled on foot with a sum of cash.

Gardaí said he made his way down the Clon Road towards an area known as Rocky Road.

No one was injured in the incident.

Witnesses described the man as being approximately six-foot-tall with a thin build.

He was wearing a dark coloured tracksuit, tracksuit leggings, a dark top and the Guy Fawkes mask.

This afternoon, gardaí arrested a man in connection with the robbery.

He is being detained at Shannon Garda Station.
