Police in Greece have arrested a Greek man (52) over the death of his Irish partner.

The man is alleged to have killed the woman (48) at their apartment in Athens.

It is thought her body could have been there for a number of weeks.

The victim is believed to be from Northern Ireland originally.

It is understood she had been living and working in the Greek capital for a number of years.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the woman's family.
