A former solicitor is to stand trial charged with the theft of €2.8 million from a Dublin law firm.

Ruairi O'Ceallaigh (42) of Collegeland, Summerhill in Co. Meath has been remanded on bail to appear again at Dublin District Court on January 16th for service of the book of evidence.

It is alleged that between 2006 and 2010 he dishonestly appropriated money from the client accounts of the Phibsborough based family practice, Sean O'Ceallaigh and Company, where he worked as a partner.

He is also accused of stealing over €1.5 million from the firm which represented the estate of Donal O'Suilleabhainn.

Detective Sergeant Paschal Walsh of the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation told the court that he met Mr. O'Ceallaigh by appointment this morning.

He gave evidence that he made no reply when the seven charges were put to him at the Bridewell Garda Station.

Wearing a dark suit and tie, Mr. O'Ceallaigh sat with his hands in his lap during the court appearance today.

Judge Patricia McNamara was informed that the DPP has directed trial on indictment. She granted bail to the former solicitor on his own bond of €200.

His father Sean O'Ceallaigh has agreed to put up €5,000 as an independent surety.
