A man (58), wanted in connection with the murder of Barry McCrory, has been arrested in Derry overnight following a major manhunt.

Mr McCrory (35) was shot dead in a flat in Shipquay Street last Thursday.

The PSNI launched an appeal for information about Kieran McLaughlin in the aftermath of the killing and warned the public not to approach him.

He was detained in the Galliagh area of Derry overnight on suspicion of murder. It is understood he was armed at the time but no shots were fired.

PSNI appeal

The PSNI launched an unprecedented appeal to find Kieran McLaughlin last week.

Naming him, they appealed to the suspect to give himself up.

Gardaí assisted with the search, south of the border at a premises in Burnfoot, north Co Donegal.

Mr McCrory was killed on the same day that dissident republicans claimed responsibility for the murder of a second man in Belfast.
