Gardaí have seized heroin worth €45,000 and arrested one man as part of an operation in Westmeath.

At around 7.30pm yesterday evening officers stopped a car near Kinnegad.

The 35-year-old driver was arrested and taken to Mullingar Garda Station where he is still being detained.

Heroin with an estimated street value of €45,000 was also seized.

Gardaí say the seizure came as part of ongoing operations targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs in the Westmeath area.
