Man charged after climbing onto roof of House of Commons

A 23-year-old man has been charged after spending hours on the roof of the British Houses of Parliament.

The man was arrested early this morning, after spending most of the night on the roof.

Braydon Liam Anderson from Northampton is appearing in court tomorrow, charged with criminal damage and trespass on a protected site.

Police were made aware of a man on the roof of the building at 9.15pm last night.

Police negotiators were called to the scene and London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service also attended.

Just after 5am, however, the man came down and was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and trespassing. The 23-year-old was taken to a police station in central London pending further police enquiries.

Police said "at this stage it is too early to ascertain the reason as to why the man trespassing on the roof."

Sky's Jason Farrell said earlier there was a climate change march in London, and the last roof protest there in 2009 involved Greenpeace. However he says it is not known if the latest incident was a protest:
