The first man convicted of murder in the Hutch-Kinahan gangland feud has lost his appeal.

Eamon Cumberton from Mountjoy Square in Dublin 7 is serving a life sentence for the murder of Michael Barr at the Sunset House pub in Dublin.

Michael Barr was shot seven times when two men wearing Freddie Kruger style masks walked into the pub where he was working on April 25th 2016.

Cumberton was convicted of murder following a 21-day trial before the Special Criminal Court in January 2018.

His was the first murder conviction in relation to the Hutch/Kinahan feud.

DNA found on a baseball cap and on a mask found in the getaway car linked him to the murder.

His lawyers raised 28 grounds of appeal against his conviction, arguing that he didn’t receive a fair trial before the non-jury court.

They claimed they weren’t given a chance to examine certain items and they also criticised what they claimed was the court’s reliance on supportive evidence.

However, the Court of Appeal has today rejected all of his grounds of appeal and concluded that they are completely satisfied that his trial was satisfactory and that the guilty verdict is safe.
