The man accused of stabbing a creche worker outside her flat in south inner-city Dublin has appeared in court, with a fresh looking black eye.
Denis Leahy, of no fixed abode, was charged with assault causing harm last week after the mother of one was attacked on her way to work.
Rose Kenny was stabbed at least 20 times after leaving her home at the School Street flats just before 8am last Tuesday week.
Her attacker fled and she managed to stumble out into the main courtyard, where she collapsed before being rushed to nearby St James's Hospital.
She underwent emergency surgery and doctors managed to stabilise her before she was taken to the intensive care unit to recover.
Mr Leahy (48) was brought to court the following day charged with assault causing harm and he made his second appearance today.
He had a noticeable black eye under his right eye that was not there this day last week.
There was no mention of bail today and he was remanded in custody until the end of the month for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Yesterday, gardaí renewed their appeal for witnesses.
They are eager to speak to any taxi driver who picked up a grey haired, stocky man with a grey goatee who is around 5ft 7 in height, in his late 40s and was wearing dark clothing in the Marrowbane Lane/James Street area at around 7:55am the morning of the attack.
