The man accused of the worst multiple shooting in US history has appeared in court this evening in Denver, Colorado.
With bright red and orange hair and looking dazed 24-year-old James Holmes remained silent for the hearing.
He is accused of murdering 12 people when he went on a shooting rampage at a cinema in Aurora on Friday during a midnight screening of the latest Batman movie.

58 people were also injured in the attack.
11 of those are said to be critical.
He is reported to have said “I am the joker” following his arrest on suspicion of carrying out the shootings.

He says Mr. Holmes is due back in court next Monday where formal charges will be filed against him.
