A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery in Kildare.

A man armed with a handgun entered a shop in the Dunbrin area of Athy at around 4pm yesterday.

He threatened staff before leaving the scene with a sum of money.

Gardaí have recovered an imitation firearm along with a sum of money during a follow-up operation.

A 20-year-old man was also arrested.

The man is being held at Newbridge Garda Station.
