The head of the Labour Relations Commission will present a report to the government today, after a fortnight of talks with union chiefs aimed at rescuing the Croke Park 2 deal.

Last month, public service union members gave a decisive rejection of the agreement.

Today, the Cabinet's expected to grant a request to LRC chief Kieran Mulvey for more time to liase with the unions on the proposals to cut a billion euro from the public service pay bill by 2015.

Mr. Mulvey will also meet with SIPTU and the garda unions - the GRA and AGSI - later.

Martin Wall, Industry Correspondent with the Irish Times, says the government won't want to let the talks between unions and the LRC draw out much longer:
