The Little Museum of Dublin has won a major European award.

It picked up the EU prize for cultural heritage - the Europa Nostra Award - in the category of Education, Training and Awareness Raising.

It was this year's only Irish winner.

The public can also vote on which of this year's Europa Nostra winners receive the special 'People's Choice' award.

The Little Museum of Dublin, which is located on St Stephen's Green in the city centre, tells the story of Dublin.

On its website, the museum says "our famous guided tours reveal the history of a city that has undergone remarkable changes in the last 100 years, from the visit of Queen Victoria to the global success of U2".

Congratulating the winners, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Tibor Navracsics said, "thanks to their talent and commitment, numerous European cultural heritage treasures have been safeguarded and revitalised for the benefit of present and future generations.

"Their projects raise awareness of cultural heritage as a strategic resource for Europe’s society and economy," he added.
