Gardai have paid tribute to those who helped in the investigation into the murder of Elaine O'Hara.

As part of the long Garda inquiry, 488 people were interviewed, 788 statements were taken and 5,300 hours of CCTV footage were examined.

Speaking after the guilty verdict, Chief Superintendent Diarmuid O’Sullivan also paid tribute to Elaine O’Hara’s family.

A core group of 20 gardai were working on the case from Blackrock Garda Station, and they also called on the resources of telecommunications experts and the computer crime investigation unit.

Superintendent John Hand of Blackrock Garda station says the investigation was highly complex.

Garda James O’Donoghue of Roundwood Garda station went back to Vartry reservoir three times to find more evidence after suspect items had been found there.

He describes how he found handcuffs and a set of keys when he went back on the 16th of September.

O’Donoghue went back repeatedly to the Vartry reservoir to retrieve evidence says he only did what any garda would have done in relation to the investigation.
