A Limerick man has been jailed for life for murdering 4 people including his ex-partner and their 5-month-old baby daughter in attacks of exceptional violence.

The 34-year-old of Meadow Court in Newcastle West stabbed Sarah Hines, his daughter Amy, her 3-year-old brother Reece and 20-year-old Alicia Brough at a house in Newcastle West on November 15th 2010.

'You dirty scab' was shouted at John Geary as he was led away from court by prison officers.

He remained impassive as gardai gave the court details of the gruesome murders he committed most-likely out of jealousy that his ex-partner Sarah Hines had started a new relationship.

The 34-year-old called around to her house in Newcastle West in November 2010 and repeatedly stabbed her and their baby daughter Amy to death in an attack of exceptional violence.

When 20-year-old Alicia Brough and Sarah's son - 3 and a half year-old Reece - arrived back at the house from a trip to the butchers he murdered them with a knife and screwdriver.

The victims families have called his an 'evil cowardly crime'. John Geary says he is very, very sorry in a letter that was read out to the court just before Mr. Justice Paul Carney jailed him for life.

Maria Dempsey, mother of Alicia Brough, spoke outside court.

Peter Rolfe, step-father of Sarah Hines, asked for privacy for the family.
