A major search in underway for a man who entered the River Shannon in Limerick City tonight.

The Father of two (28) was seen entering the water at the Shannon Bridge at around 7.30pm.

Gardaí, the Coast Guard helicopter, and the fire service, are involved in the search.

A team of four divers in two boats attached to Limerick Marine Search and Rescue Service are continuing to comb the river in search of the man.
