Lena Dunham has shared and praised Tom Meagher's comments on men's violence against women on her social media accounts.

Tom has become a vocal campaigner in the fight to end men's violence against women after his wife Jill was raped and murdered in a suburb of Melbourne in 2012. Adrian Ernest Bayley was sentenced to life imprisonment last year after he pleaded guilty to Jill's murder.

Dunham has recently revealed her own experience of being raped while at college.

The extract shared yesterday by the popular actress, writer and director comes from Tom Meagher's article The Danger of the Monster Myth, in which he argues "male self-examination requires... courage, and we cannot end the pattern of men’s violence against women without consciously breaking our silence."

You can see Dunham's full post below, in which she praises Tom's work and words:

Beautiful words from Tom Meagher, whose wife Jill was raped and murdered. To anyone who has accused me/us of vilifying men as a group: analysis of the rampant forces that keep women from speaking about assault should not scare you. It should excite you, because you will have happier, more engaged and empowered partners who trust you and open up to you. I fucking love men, I want to be in dialogue with men. And Tom Meagher used his wife's unspeakable death to create dialogue, so bless the fuck out of him.
